In general, the term “corporate governance” refers to the entirety of all national and international values and principles of relevance to high-quality, responsible company management by which both the employees and the management of companies are bound. Corporate governance does not represent a standard set of international rules; apart from a small number of shared, internationally recognized principles, it rather involves a country-specific understanding of responsible company management.
In Germany, the principles of corporate governance have been laid down in the German Corporate Governance Code, which is intended to provide national and international investors with transparency as to the rules governing company management and supervision in Germany. This in turn is intended to enhance the confidence placed in the management of German companies.
